Port Lincoln

G'day Mates!

At this moment we are in Perth and having fun with our daughter Sheila so I don't have time for long stories so here is a short one;

This is my story a month ago;

It's the 24 th of February and we just left port Lincoln. We had a great week there, the caravan park was amazing and besides the last two days, which was very windy and cold, we had lovely weather.

We had to stay a whole week as between Arno bay and Port Lincoln we damaged our awning and so we had to wait for a new one. Actually we already wanted to go to that caravan repairer in Port Lincoln because there was something wrong with our roof and it seemed to be the gas-struts so on the first day they already put new ones on. This company, John Martin, is very good so if you ever have caravan problems and cruising around Port Lincoln, there is were you go!

This is also a way of camping...

The caravan park is a bit out of town but there is a great path along the ocean which you can walk from the park to town and is approx. 3,5 k's.

Very nice, they also lead you through the port and as we walked there the first time they were unloading fish from the fishing boats into trucks. The fish seemed to be Sardines which is in Australia a bit of an underdog. They use it for bait and food for other big fish like Tuna, Dolphins etc....

When we were watching and me of course taking pictures and movies, an old guy with a beard and long hear came to us and asked if we like Sardines and of course, yes we do but you can hardly buy them in a normal supermarket, only as bait.  Then he said, " just wait a minute and I'll get you some", so he took off to one of the ships and after approx. 10 minutes he came back with a plastic bag half full with Sardines. He wanted to give them all but I said it's too much for just the two of us so he kept half and I took half.

The way back to the caravan park;

When we got home Fred cleaned the Sardines and put them in a bag with olive oil and a lot of garlic and the next day we ate them as lunch, OMG they were lovely.

After our adventure in Bali I bought myself a snorkel set not thinking about all the dangerous creatures living in the oceans around Australia.....

Movie time

I thought I might never dare to use it but sturdy as I am (?), I did! Even though I had seen this guy catching this thing ;

On Monday, before leaving Port Lincoln, we went passed John Martin and within one hour we had our new awning mounted.

See ya next time!!

Cheers!

Whyalla

G'day mates!

Just 4 more days and our daughter is coming, we are nearly in Perth but with the stories I'm far behind; still in South Australia!!

OK lets hurry; our trip from Broken Hill to Whyalla,

Movie time;

It's hot, blo....hot! We are in Whyalla waiting for some post: here is the story....

We are on a softball oval somewhere on the edge of Whyalla and actually that park isn't too bad wasn't it for the terrible wind which caused dust clouds and we were eating sand all the time. Because we didn't had power we just wanted the windows open in the caravan and you can imagine how the interior looked like in the end.
Also because of the heat, our neighbours ran their generator so they could run their air conditioner, Terrible!! Not only the noise but also the exhaust fumes made us flee.

The post we were waiting for had been send, according to their email on Monday and we went to the post office from Wednesday on every day and at Friday it still wasn't there. We've been waiting a whole week for nothing, normally it's not that bad but Whyalla isn't one of the most interesting places so it was a waist of time actually.

Then why do we have that big smile on our face??

The only thing what made our stay special, were the Dolphins !! We have seen them twice and that was AMAZING!

Aren't they smart??

They really look at you as human beings.....

More visitors...(they look as if they come out of the Muppet Show haha)

Hi sweety!

Please enjoy this movie;

When the post didn't came, we decided to go further to Arno Bay where friends were waiting for us.

Arno Bay

We had a few nice days in Arno Bay, in a caravan park right on the beach and the weather had changed into cool which was very welcome as I could clean the caravan a bit, undo it from the dust.

 Except for the heaps seaweed, the beach was lovely. And I walked every morning for half an hour with a brisk pace. I still have to get rid of some belly fat I gained during our Netherlands adventure, you remember, the Belgium Beer!

Not only the morning but also the sunset is incredible....

We had a few,  hips  hips.....to dlink.....

But....., I also did a nice walk, Fred had a bit trouble with his back so I went by myself;
(he is all well again!)

After a day with our friends, other friends of them also arrived and we had (again) some nice drinks, snacks and talks together.

It was very nice to have seen them again and we hope we will catch up again in the future, somewhere in Australia!

That's it again mates, hope you enjoyed it and hope to see you soon!

Cheers!

Silverton & The Living Desert Sculptures

G'day Mates,

We just came back out of paradise! But that's for later!

Now it's Silverton. Silverton is famous because it's the decor to many films of which the most awkward one; Mad Max. But also Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, Razorback and parts of The Flying Doctors were shot on the famous Mundi Mundi Plains, 5 k's west of Silverton.

Though Silverton is a museum itself, it also bears a lot of museums and art galleries, most of them are free or a golden coin donation. In the Silverton Hotel you can see a lot of pictures made during the make of the films and of course most of them are from Mad Max, there are even some cars and other stuff used in that film still there.

Silverton today is inhabited by a permanent population of only about 50 people, but its history and location make it a relatively popular tourist destination. Several artists live in or around the town, including Peter Browne, Albert Woodroffe and John Dynon, with some maintaining their own galleries.

Also here it was most probably not the right time to come as this museum was closed....

When we lived in Australia I got a Mickey Mouse for my first birthday. He became my dearest pal, mate, buddy for 54 years now and when he was dirty from hugging and my mommy put him in the washing machine, I cried my eyes out because I thought he would drown and later when he hang by his ears to dry, I cried again because that would hurt, how could my mother be so cruel..... haha

The sad thing is, when we emigrated we thought we would sell our house quickly, so I put my Mickey in a box and in the container which is now nearly 7 years ready to be shipped to Australia as our house is still not sold!!

Mickey in a box, who is the cruel one here now hey??

I miss him heaps so this little museum made my day!!

A bit more art work.....

This is in line with the significant number of artists working out of nearby Broken Hill, as the surrounding landscape and lighting is particularly amenable to the creation of art.

After Silverton we visited The Living Desert, Flora and Fauna Sanctuary and Sculptures....

A successful sculpture symposium was held on this majestic hilltop (within the centre of the reserve) in 1993 by artists from around the world, under the direction of organiser and artist Lawrence Beck. 12 sandstone sculptures highlight the skyline, all with a story to tell.

This is an example of the sculpture park....

please watch the Movie for all the sculptures it's worth it....!

The Sculpture Site can be accessed via a 1 km walking trail starting from the Flora and Fauna Sanctuary car park but you can also go by car, luckily because it was pretty hot and the sculptures are on top of the hill......

But after we visited the sculptures I decided to walk down to the car park and picnic area to meet Fred there and have lunch.......

and I'm glad I did because down hill was an easy walk and it was worth it....

I hope you enjoyed this again, we now are already in the West and travelling remote areas with no reception so that's why you don't see/hear from me very often.

But now we have to find a spot with good internet as I have to catch up a bit. Our daughter is coming to Perth in about 1 1/2 week time and then I won't have time at all!!

See ya soon (I hope),
Cheers!
