Race Horses

G'day Mates,

On the farm are also 3 horses with which David and Lorraine are racing. There are more horses but they are just not race horses or retired.
So these three horses are being spoilt with the hope they once will win some races. In the time we have been there they have been a few times to Adelaide for races but also once on Kangaroo Island.

These horses have to have attention, observation, exercise and training nearly every day and that's a lot of work. Besides that, good food and care is essential.

In this story the main thing is the films. There are a few of them and I think they are funny, interesting and beautiful. So lets enjoy ourselves;

This is Filly, Davids horse;

She looks so nice but she can also be naughty, I found out later from David that the other horse, Wild Stranger, was annoying her.....

There is a loud sound on the background, sorry for that but it's a water pump....

 David walks nearly daily with Filly, just a bit down and up the driveway.....

Filly has a leg problem and David tries to find out what's wrong with her;

We also have a "yes" horse, haha, very funny.....

Lorraine rides her horse Marmalade....

But now David is busy with his horse and Lorraine is riding hers, Wild Stranger feels ignored and is jealous so he decides to have his own little party;

Marmalade is going to run in the Kangaroo Island Races.....

Of course you can also bet......

and so we did.......
Marmalades name is "Alweighs" at the races.....

getting them excited to run.....

The jockey takes his place and the excitement is rising.......

Unfortunately Alweighs ended 4th.....

You might think the Jockeys beat the horses and it hurts but that's not the case, these horses really love to run and race, they can hardly wait to start and are so excited they feel nothing......

David, next time we're going to bet again, if it's Filly, Marmalade or Wild Stranger, I expect some winnings now so do your best haha!

That's it again people, I hope you liked it, we certainly did!

Cheers!

Big Job

G'day Mates!!

Finally I can show you another job we have been doing on the farm. It took so long because it was a huge job and we just finished it two days before we left.

By the way, the farewell was tough as I already predicted. Of course I had to cry but I was luckily not the only one, Lorraine had tears too and we figured out that it must be the date of birth; she has hers too on the 18th of October haha. Oh well, we might go back some day, you never know!

To come back on our job, we built a toilet/shower block and the main issue of it was, that we had to build it with material what we could find on the premises. Except for some screws, sheets for the roof, the plumbing stuff and a toilet which all was new, we succeeded very well.

This was the beginning, David had sorted out were he wanted the toilet and shower and already had digging 4 holes for the poles for the walls and one big one for the sceptic tank.

with putting some heavy iron poles in the four holes we figured out it needed to be bigger so we dug two more holes and found two more iron poles...

Thinking, thinking.......

Aah yes, cement is needed.....

Fred was looking for tools or material or was just thinking how to secure the pole I am holding....

As you can see its not only a toilet and shower but David also wanted a big "veranda" for shade along the caravan (which will be used later for visitors) ......

New sheets are being mounted.....

of course they sometimes have to be adjusted to fit.....

David screwed the sheets on the wooden frame.....

The plumbing had to be done before we could put the cement floors in.....

Its very difficult and scary (Fred was sweating) because it had to be proper done as once you put the glue on it, its stuck and you can't adjust it anymore.....

It was time for the floors.....

As you can see here, we did the floor in three stages.....

this is the last stage which was a bit lower because it is the floor for the shower...

after the floors were finished we searched the place for corrugated iron sheets....

David had to demolish a little duck, geese and chicken shelter to get some more sheets....

We had to go all over the place, and its pretty big as you could see in my "Farm" edition, looking for material and during this activity we one day were confronted with a huge snake. I alarmed David but before we came back it was gone .......

There were even two doors laying around somewhere.....(with peep holes haha)

it is becoming a real Aussie Dunny!! (Australian slang for toilet)

The new toilet was delivered by Lorraine and now its nearly finished.....

And then we had the grand opening!!

Unfortunately David had given a whole speech but before I had my camera on filming, the half was gone already, so you hear just a little bit.
Sorry David!

David had given me a iron sheet to make a sign and he wanted our names on it, so I complied with his request....
With him hanging up the sign, the toilet/shower block was officially opened haha!....

of course everyone had to have a look......

and even wanted to try, but the water still has to be connected and the sceptic tank is not connected yet, so there is still some work left for David.....

Then Fred popped the cork off the bubbles bottle and we had a nice drink (soft drink for the kids of course)

To be honest, 80% of the building has been done by Fred, I only helped with thinking, handing tools, searching for stuff etc. and David made the cement and mounted the sheets on the roof and telling Fred regularly he is doing a great job haha!

So I'm very proud of my hubby!!

OK mates, we might have left Kangaroo Island now but I still have some stories of our adventure there and I can tell you, especially when you are a horse lover, you HAVE to watch the next blog!!

See you then.
Cheers!

Flinders Chase

There is something about this Island. We are here now 3 1/2 month and we liked it very much. We didn't think we could stay that long but yeh, we did! I think life here is still the way it was when I came the first time for holidays to Australia in 1980. Everything was so easy and relaxed you really felt save. "Save" , I'm of course talking about crime, on the other hand creeping crawlers, snakes and other dangerous creatures were more in those days.  That safety feeling then, that's how it should be all over the whole world. Pity that that is just an illusion these days. Here, on this island that feeling still exists!

We are leaving on Wednesday and we will miss it, especially this spot, the farm, the animals, David, Lorraine and the kids. Never a dull moment here! Well, on all nice things comes an end, anyhow we will be going on with our adventures.

OK, now that that's been said, let's go further with exploring the island: today I'm having Flinders Chase national park for you, which is situated on the other end of the Island. We went to the southern part.

After we parked the car at the visitor centre and paid the entry fee, we did the Platypus Waterholes walk. Unfortunately we didn't see any platypus except for this bronze one.
But the walk was very nice.

I like these Yukka's

the water was very low so I think that's the reason we didn't see any Platypus

They also seem to be very shy and have a good hearing, so if they hear you coming, they hide.

During the walk you pass this outlook....

After the walk we went to Cape Du Couedic where you can find the "Admirals Arch"..

High on the cliffs you have a terrific view over the Southern Ocean and when you look down, you can see its packed with Sea Lions dosing in the sun on the rocks....

or playing in the water.....

We took our chairs out of the car and had lunch here right on this spot!!

It wouldn't be Australia if they didn't build a boardwalk down to the "Admirals Arch"...

This is the "Admirals Arch"

Again a few lasy Sea Lions....

From the Admirals Arch we drove to the Remarkable Rocks.....

and again, via a boardwalk we got to the rocks......

and remarkable they are......

Leave it Fred, its too heavy!

And what did you think about the remarkable rocks? Remarkable hey??

So we are leaving on Wednesday and My God people you know me in the mean time, tears will be running so David and Lorraine, you are warned !
Does anyone has a solution? Should Fred give me a knock over the head so I will be unconscious at least till we are on the Ferry?

Pfff, I'll let you know how it went, for now;

Cheers!
