Charters Towers; Cattle Sales

The next day we went to the sale yards where every Wednesday cattle sales are going on. Also this was very interesting and again we had a talk with a man who owned himself 7000 cattle on a huge property, he explained a lot of things going on in such cattle sale.

Listen to the auction and see the cowboy (in this case it was a girl) bring the cattle to the scale to be weighted.

We were laughing about the cow's wobbling lump.....

After the sales visit we went for a cuppa at the Clubhouse....

In the afternoon we walked to the Towers Hill. From there you could see over Charters Towers and very far in the distance.

A lovely Rock-Wallaby posed in front of my camera.

At sherry time we surprised Ben with having his youngest brother (Ton), who lives in Holland) on Skype, Ton just had a laptop and Internet so Ben didn’t expect that.

In the afternoon we were treated by them on a real good meal at the Irish Pub.

Next day they left for Townsville and me in tears again of course.

I have to tell you this little story before we leave Charters Towers:
One or two days after our family had left us, we got new neighbors with a nice big caravan. After they had settled the man came to us and asked us if we liked Red Claw. We never heard of it and so we asked what it was and why he asked.

Well the problem was that his fridge/freezer wasn't shut properly and on their trip that day it went open and everything had fallen out and was defrosted. Gee that would have been a mess, pour people. Anyhow he said he had a lot of defrosted Red Claw and he wanted to give us some because they couldn't eat it all themselves, and it would be a pity to throw it away. I asked how to cook it and he invited us to come over to them, he would cook it and give us a sign when he was ready. It was really beautiful!

We had a nice talk and laughs because the man had had the same professions as Fred, starting as a carpenter and ending in prison ( on the right side of the door though)!!

We didn't have to cook that evening!

Till next time Mates!
Cheers!
