Our last days in New Zealand!

G'day Mates,

At every period comes an end and so our time in New Zealand. We really loved it and we both think it is one of the most beautiful countries of the world!

On the 5th of January the family we did the sit for came back and we drove to the airport to swap cars, they got their own car back and we had hired a little car again. After saying goodbye and doing some shopping we drove to our last Airb&b in Mount Somers.....

When we came from the West before our house sit, we drove over Arthurs Pass and as you can remember we had terrible weather so we passed Castle Hill, something I had wanted to see. Now on our way to Mount Somers, we first went to Castle Hill, which wasn't much of a detour....

It was pretty busy and we had great weather.....

The geology of the rocks at Kura Tāwhiti is tertiary limestone, mudstone, sandstone and tuffs. Limestone is formed from layers of organic sediment, deposited in deep oceans far from land. The layers are compressed into soft, soluble rock.

The area was once under a large, shallow inland sea that began to infill some 30 million years ago. Pressure over time caused extensive uplift and folding and faulting of the Torlesse and Craigieburn Ranges.

Thrust up from their origin, the limestone rock was eroded by water into these distinctive sculptured landforms, called a karst landscape.

Now you can see better how big these rocks are.....

After this nice site seeing we went to our Airb&b and were happily surprised, what a relaxing nice spot....

Sitting on the reclining chairs, enjoying a wine and the garden view....

Unfortunately we had bad weather the next day but the owner of the Airb&b told us that if we would go towards Asburton Lakes, we would most probably see the sun and so we did....

Look at the sky, we really had sun ......

We did a nice walk and it looked like being in Scotland....

just loved it.......

at the end of the day, also there we got clouds but it was amazing as when we came back at the Airb&b,  it was still drizzling and it had been like that the whole day.....

On the eights of January we had our flight back to Queensland.....

Thank you very much New Zealand for being such a beautiful country!!

Back to Aussie
See ya soon

Cheers!
