The "last" days

G'day Mates,

Again it took a long time to make a new story but you can imagine we are very busy at the moment. At this moment, while I'm typing, we are spending our "last" day in Berwick. Tonight we fly with Emirates to Amsterdam.

But first I like to tell you what we did after Adelaide. The start was terrible, when we left Adelaide you have to go through the Adelaide Hills and though it is a highway, the road was at some stages pretty steep and so we got trouble with our car. The temperature went up and up into the red warning zone and we had to stop. Fred took the lid off the radiator VERY CAREFULLY as the water was cooking and it squirted out with a lot of noise and steam. (You can get burned real nasty)

Luckily we had a lot of water with us in the caravan so we had to stop several times to let the water cool down and put new water in the radiator, so it took us a long time to come to our next destination.

Finally we got to Maryborough where we had planned to stay for four days to dig for gold, unfortunately the garage took two days to clean the radiator out because that seemed to be the problem; a blocked radiator, so we had only two days left.

Fully prepared with decent shoes I can handle every snake I might run across (pff, don't believe it), and I even have an e-Trex (handheld GPS) so I can find my way back to the car.

Fred is staying behind because he doesn't like my new hobby, he think its boring!! Wait till I find my first nugget, then he will change his mind haha.
I hope it won't take years though!

And to make himself useful he prepared a nice lunch and as you can see our cars backdoor is very handy

After lunch I found my way back into the bush again. The only thing I don't like about this hobby is, you always have to watch where you walk and of course keep an eye on the detector but that means that you don't see whats hanging in front of you so once I walked right into a nasty sticky web of a very big spider brrrrrr.

After, of course another adventure without finding anything, we went towards Berwick for the last 2 weeks before our big trip to the Netherlands.

Besides some check-ups at the dentist and doctors, we also wanted to go to Melbourne because we love Melbourne, and as usual there was a lot of music and fun and My Goodness, these guys were great....

And then its time to pack.....

    Last Tuesday we brought our caravan to a shed of my cousin in Moe, after that we spent our days with visiting family and in Warragul we looked at the parade on Anzac Day...

and people laying wreaths......

For the ones who don't know what Anzac Day is and want to know;

OK, that's is for now folks, another 6 hours and then we go to the Airport in Melbourne; Tullamarine!
Holland HERE WE COME, see ya there!!

Cheers!

Adelaide

G'day Mates,

Adelaide is a nice city, of course a city is a city but Adelaide is not as big as f.i. Melbourne or Sydney, still has a decent size but just big enough to explore comfortable. I assumed you're not interested in shops and other buildings (for great building you have to wait till we are in the Netherlands, of course the history of such things is much older and interesting, no offence to Australia but its a fact) so the only thing I have for you today is a bike ride.

We have done a certain part several times; from the caravan park to the city and back but now I talk about; caravan park, city, beach, along the beach to Glenelg en via city back to the caravan park. Altogether it was 52 k's! Crikey, did we feel our bum afterwards!!

OK lets go;

The whole track to the city leads along the Torrens River and its so bushy you can't believe you are in a city...

Suddenly we came to this and we didn't know what it was, there were no rails for a metro or train, just concrete channels.....

and then we saw it.....

some more obstacles to take.......

and then we were in the city at the market (we did the market an other day then the big ride day)......

Were fruit is on a market are vegetables and lettuce and sorry but I can't stop talking about Kangaroo Island so here again is a little story;

You most probable can remember from my lettuce story that we also put three sorts of herbs in it and here we see rocket as a herb, not a lettuce. We were picking lettuce in the dark with just a one full light on our hand and tubs. In the mean time David, and I still don't know how he did it complete in the darkness, was picking herbs to put in the tub and mix it in with the lettuce in the bag. I could smell the rocket from far distance when he cut it and I just loved it. It's my favourite lettuce/herb.

Now, on the mainland in Adelaide I bought a bag Rockets at Woolies and, my god, when I opened the package I smelled nothing, I squeezed it and smelled nothing, I cut it and smelled nothing, I still decided to use it and was sorry afterwards, we didn't taste anything....

I found this very funny and a very good idea.....
So there were people sitting there who had bought some nice cheese from another stall and some bread elsewhere and having a glass of wine with it....

An then we came to the beach, very beautiful coast with clear calm water......

On our way back Fred wanted to walk over this little bridge, we had passed it several times but now he wanted to see if it was sooo scary I thought it would be.....

I even tried it, it was a bit wobbly though....

Nearly back at the caravan park, pfffff;

back to enjoy this view; very different of what we were used to.....

and then this duck came to comfort us as he knew we missed The Daltons.....

That's it for now folks, we are getting very excited, I already packed one bag haha, bit early but that's better then too late!

I've got one more small story before the big Take Off so till then!!

Cheers!

Last days on Kangaroo Island

G'day Mates!

Sorry it took so long to publish a  new story but we are very busy at the moment. In the mean time as you know, we left Kangaroo Island, have been in Adelaide, have been looking for some gold and are now in Berwick where we started a year ago with our travel.
The reason we are here is that we are leaving in 2 1/2 weeks for the Netherlands were we will be for 4 months, so my fans who've never been there will get a great bonus, they will be surprised with stories of the other lover this blog is all about.

But before we are that far, I have to catch up with the adventures we had last few weeks so there is no time to waist, lets start;

This is the last one of Kangaroo Island and we are going to American River. We weren't even a few k's on our way or we were stuck already;

On the way up we stopped at Prospect Hill, the highest point in the area and well worth the climb of 512 steps;

This view is towards the mainland and on a clear day you can even see Mt Lofty, near Adelaide...

This is the point where the independence trail walk starts.
I planned to do this walk but we were still exhausted of the 512 steps haha...

we also got hungry from the 512 steps but the famous Oyster Farm Shop was closed, not that we wanted to have oysters because we don't even like them, but they also suppose to have fish and chips so we had to find some other place and we found this little cafe on the end of American River;

The fish and chips was good but the lettuce wasn't, most probably because it wasn't KI fresh lettuce!

After lunch we went to the American River wharf and ramps on Tangara Drive, just to have a look around......

nice clear water....

American River is a quiet, friendly fishing village, home to some 250 people and if you want to spend your holidays or just a few days here, there is a self-registration campground with power, BBQ and toilets which just looked terrific, its even near the wharf!

Then we drove via the Redbanks Road towards Red Banks at Nepean Bay ;

after a stroll along the beach we had a rest......

beautiful white sand....

lovely beer......what else do you want hey??

Going somewhere or coming home, most of the time drive on our own private driveway which is through the paddocks so we can say hello to the Geese, Ducks and Sheep.....

Its nearly time to leave, we will also miss the Daltons, these 4 ducks were 24 hrs together and hanging around our caravan all the time. They were so funny and because they always walked after each other, I named them The Daltons....

Via our own driveway we drove away, David leaving behind, waving.....

At the ferry, someone of the crew was so nice to back our car and caravan into the ferry...

a last look at Kangaroo Island......

Cheers!
