We miss our beloved Fremantle!

G'day Mates,

Our outback tour is nearly finishes, we are in Kalgoorlie and it's pouring so here I am again. My story today will be of Fremantle and I really mean the content of the title, I know I already had a few stories about Fremantle but just come with me, and I show you again some new parts.

We sometimes went with the bus and we loved doing that as a thing what amazed us were the bus stops,  look at a few of them....

The bus stop at Monument Hill Memorial Reserve...

This hill is definitely worth a visit as you'll have great views from there.....

The Fallen Soldiers' and Sailors' Memorial is designed so that at dawn 1914 is illuminated, and at sunset 1919 is illuminated, alluding to a line in the "Ode of Remembrance": "At the going down of the sun and in the morning/We will remember them".

Perth in the distance....

View towards Harbour...

A real SUBMARINE......

Bus stop at the Fremantle Prison....

Fremantle Prison, sometimes referred to as Fremantle Gaol or Fremantle Jail, is a former Australian prison and World Heritage Site in Fremantle, Western Australia. The six-hectare (15-acre) site includes the prison cellblocks, gatehouse, perimeter walls, cottages, and tunnels.

worth a visit and there are several tours you can do....

The Freo Park was one of our favourite spots do have our lunch, just sitting there enjoying the world go by....

Kakulas sisters were one of our favourite stores......

especially the little sister with the cheese section.......

we always bought Fred's favourite cheese; Leyden.....

when we wanted to spoil ourselves, we went to Kailis for fish and chips accompanied with a bottle of wine and watch the sea gulls harass the customers.....

Yes, we miss Fremantle.......

Till next time, see ya then....

Cheers!

WA Shipwreck Museum, Fremantle

G'day Mates,

Today I only have a short story but to my opinion a very interesting one. Not that I tell you so much but I just want to get people who live in the neighbourhood, but also tourists who visit Fremantle, to persuade to go to this beautiful museum. And guess what! It's for free, but of course they would be very pleased if you donate and that's worth doing because it's a great museum.

OK, enough talking, I provide you with a few pictures and the rest you really have to see yourselves..

The WA Shipwrecks Museum is recognised as the foremost maritime archaeology museum in the southern hemisphere and is housed in 1850s-era Commissariat building and has since been restored to its historic glory.

Steeped in history, the galleries house hundreds of relics from ships wrecked along WA's treacherous coastline, including the original timbers from the Batavia (wrecked in 1629), the de Vlamingh plate, and also countless artefacts from the Dutch shipwrecks Zuytdorp, Zeewijk and Vergulde Draeck.

Can you imagine, we are not great museum people, except for Danny as he loves museums and we can give him all the credit as he dragged us to here and we don't regret, anyhow, I have been reading a lot of this stuff and sometimes had goosebumps from the cruelty they did in those days....

The "De Vlamingh plate"....
(There is a whole story about this plate and one of the volunteers of the museum explains it all)

Here you can see how the Aboriginals tell what they saw.....

On a balcony you can walk around the shipwreck on which you have a great view....

and the plaque explains what you see......

The Dutch VOC ....

Once again I ask you to go and see this museum, I promise, you won't be disappointed....

AND....... don't forget to donate!

Cheers!

Christmas and New Years Eve in Australia

G'day Mates!

First of all, my hubby Fred and I wish you a very happy, but more important a healthy New Year! Losing three of our dear family members in 2016, we hope to have a better 2017 as well.

You know I grew up and lived for 44 years in The Netherlands and had a totally different Christmas as we have now and I must admit, we cannot get used to the Aussie Christmas. It's not that they don't do enough, in contrary, here is the evidence;

and wait till you see the movie of above because it's all moving;

Movie time;

Even inside of our dear friends'home in Perth, where we have been celebrating Christmas, a lot of effort has been made to make it all cosy and to get some Christmas feeling...

Well what can you do more hey??

It's just the climate which spoils it all (for us), if this was snow it would have been a bit closer to the old Christmas feeling but it isn't, we're on the beach at Christmas day, at approx. 9 o'clock in the morning, having bubbles and some lovely home made snacks and it is already getting bloody hot!

The only thing you can do is singing; "let it snow, let it snow, let it snow," haha, but if that would happen we would be devastated as we emigrated for the nice hot weather, soooo.....
I won't complain anymore!

After the beach and some relax swimming in the pool we had a terrific Christmas meal together...

And after the Christmas meal we unpacked the presents, Crikey were we spoiled!!

We had a great WARM Christmas, and I don't only mean the weather but also the hospitality of our lovely hosts! Thanks!!

What is New Years Eve without "Oliebollen", a dutch tradition and because you cannot buy them here, I had to make them myself which I had never done before! Must say, they were lovely!

From leftovers you can make a perfect dish....

On the last day of the year we decided to go to Fremantle and having a lunch, we went by train and bus so here we are waiting patiently for the train to come....

Kalis in Fremantle is specialised in fish so .....

we had some fish and chips with a bottle of wine!

We came back at about 6 o'clock and had a lovely evening watching telly and especially the Sydney Fireworks!

I planned a surprise for the people outside Australia as they will only see a small part of it. I filmed the whole 11,20 minutes with the intention to put it on my blog for you but unfortunately, and I could have known it, there is copy right on it so I'm not allowed to.

I changed the music and just have a small part now!!

Enjoy;

See ya soon,
Cheers!
