Carnival in Port Douglas

G'day Mates,

After that great day to the Cape Tribulation and Daintree I told you in my blog before, we had a marvellous dinner Danny treated us on;

After dinner a drink at the Central Hotel....

We planned to stay 3 nights in Port Douglas but there was a Carnival coming on the 17^th so we stayed one more night. It was great; there was a parade at night and fireworks. The battery of my camera went flat after taking this film……

so I tried to make some pictures and film with my phone but that didn’t went well......

but you can see a little bit of the fire works.....

Next day there were a lot of things to do on the beach like a competition of sand sculptures;

look at these two beauties....

there were skydivers jumping out this helicopter....

Novice outrigger regatta.....

Then we took our chairs to join the.....

Medieval Jousting Tournament.... 

with the night of Camelot....

this looked soooo genuine, one had broke the lance a few times, it was really well done!!

after the play the horses could cool down in the sea...

this fellow (a Bat) was one of the hundreds hanging in a tree in our caravan park.

At night they were flying all over the place.

The road to Port Douglas

G'day mates, we're back in the habitable world.  

Tuesday the 14^th May;

We are on our way to Port Douglas, there are a few road works;

and then we had to wait....

We pass Cairns because Danny is leaving from Cairns so it’s wiser to keep Cairns as last and go to Port Douglas first. This last piece from Cairns to Port Douglas is one of the most spectacular coastal roads of Australia

We are heaving a great Caravan Park just minutes from the roaring little centre of this lovely place. I love Port Douglas but again; it is so expensive. Danny has booked a tour to the reef to do some snorkeling and of course we would have liked to join him but it’s nearly 200.00 bucks p/p and we definitely can’t afford that. So unfortunately I cannot surprise you with pictures of the reef and the beautiful creatures that live in it. But Danny had a great time!

What we did together is we went to Daintree and took the ferry over the Daintree-River, famous for the crocodiles, to Cape Tribulation. The road was approx. 35 k’s to the Tribulation and all along you could do walks what we did of course. Danny likes the jungle and so do we ……..

our first walk was "Jindalba boardwalk" ....

the second walk was "Dubuji boardwalk" with mangroves and access to the beach...... 

On the signs we learnt that also in this area are Cassowaries but we didn’t expect to see them. But then… suddenly we heard something and there they were, two beautiful creatures but we were so stunned, especially Danny was surprised by their height, I forgot to take a picture. Most probably we wouldn’t have been good anyway because of the thickly wooded forest. 

and then you just walk right out of the jungle, to the beach....

On the way back we stopped in Daintree as we thought that Danny might wanted to go on a boat tour to spot crocs, but he didn’t want to. Now we’ve been here before and knew a nice track along the river were we had seen crocs in the past so that was the alternative, it’s a very nice track through the paddocks.

Unfortunately we didn't see crocs but the drive was very excited....

Mission beach

G'day Mates,

It looks like we are heading to the outback at the moment so we won't have reception for a few days that's why I come back so quick, I don't want to lose my fans do I? Here's a short one;

We go back to 13th of May;

This is the part where you can find Cassowaries if you’re lucky. On our visits in the past Fred and I have been lucky several times at a certain walk. Of course we want to share this with Danny and so we wander off into the bush. Unfortunately we didn’t see Cassowaries;

but we saw big and I mean BIG spiders, please join us on this little walk;

The first one was nice and decent, he/she makes a very strange web;

We are being very quiet, especially near the stream because here we saw them in the pasted, I mean the Cassowaries of course, not the spiders they are always there brrr.

The creepy crawlers suddenly hang in front of your face so now and then you could hear a scream from one of us. Being brave we managed to take some pictures.

still being very quiet.....

ooh, I forgot to tell, we were covered by hunderds of mozzies, so if you ever walk this; apply repellent!

of course there are also nice creatures in the Forrest's....

this one must have been fighting, he misses 2 legs, well he's got 6 left the lucky basterd!

After lunch (a Magnum) we had a laid back afternoon, sitting on the beach with a cold beer, watching the skydivers.
