New Zealand 5; Poor Christchurch, Animal Farm, Halswell quarry, Akaroa

G'day Mates!

My blog is slowly coming to an end. You will still have one or two of New Zealand, then one or two of the last weeks/days in Australia and then maybe a few of our new future in The Netherlands, maybe I will show you some pics of our lovely little home we bought and are decorating now.

Anyway, lets go further with New Zealand. Our House sitting was fantastic, a beautiful home with a great garden with a lot of flowers but also veggies and berries....

But most important were the lovely animals; 2 Cats, PJ and Arthur....

When I was picking berries, they liked to be with me and lie on the net above my head....

Then we had three bunnies (sorry I forgot their names 😕) and I only have a picture of two....

Pj loved to challenge them....

And last but not least, because we got eggs from them, chooks....

We also could use their cars, one of them was an electric car, what a great experience....
We were stationed in Rolleston and from there into Christchurch wasn't too far so we took the electric car when we had to do some shopping or sight seeing.....

Of course there were a lot of things to do and see around Christchurch. Poor Christchurch, we understood it was a very nice city before the earthquake hit it. I didn't make pictures of the gaps were once have been buildings, but instead here are some nice things which were still there....

The Botanical Garden....

Awkward trees....

The Fern House...

Cacti as well...

The Rose Garden....

When we came outside we saw this lovely tram....

Then we went to the Canterbury Museum, very interesting and Free!

Can't imagine that they could ride a bike like this in the old days!

On the way back to the car....

We went to New Regent Street, a street with lots Restaurants but also a lucky street as all the nice buildings have been saved....

A tram goes through....

God, do I miss my camera, my old phone doesn't make great pictures....

Look at the last tram....

It's carrying a pram 😂 ....

We also had Christmas in New Zealand but of course we didn't had much decoration....

But we made the best of it and with a movie like "Love Actually" it could have been worse...

That was Christchurch, lets go to some places close by.....

Halswell Quarry is a park on the fringe of the city with walks, historic sites and six sister-city gardens.

On top you had a great view!

A great walk !

A choice of easy, accessible walks connect small botanical collections representing six of Christchurch's sister cities: Adelaide (South Australia), Christchurch (England), Gansu Province (China), Kurashiki (Japan), Seattle (USA), and Songpa-Gu (Korea).

An other day we went to Akaroa which is a beautiful little town just 75 kilometres Christchurch. Akaroa is a historic French and British settlement nestled in the heart of an ancient volcano.

On our way we pasted this Silostay in Little River which was amazing, these apartments looked very cosy and nice, you can even stall your bike at a very different way....

By the way, the journey to Akaroa is a delightful trip through changing landscapes....

and so was Akaroa itself; I mean "Delightful"....

Big cruise ships (see one behind the sail boat) visit this little town which means when the tourist go ashore, the population of the town doubles....

Here at the shore we had a great Fish and Chips lunch!

On our way back you could still see the cruise ship for miles and miles....

For this day out we took the Toyota 4WD as the electric car wouldn't make it that far. We took a back way home which sometimes was very narrow and suddenly we were confronted......

with a big, mystery fog.....

though we sometimes had bad sight, we found our way home safe and sound......

One more story to come of New Zealand!
See ya!
Cheers!
