Mount Remarkable

G'day Mates,

During our stay in Port Germein we had visited Mount Remarkable and found out that you could camp there as well. The place looked very good and so I went online, because that's the only way to book and pay for a site, and so we ended up in this great National Park and stayed for 2 nights....

Come and enjoy our spot, view and the animals we met during our two walks....

When you book you have to choose a site number. Luckily, as I told you already, we had been there the day before and we had seen the spots and wrote down a few we liked.

This was one with a nice view and not too far from the toilets and showers, oh YES those facilities were there as well!

What a relaxing spot hey!! The trees were beautiful!

And we got company as well!!

Our first walk to Sugargum Lookout, 8 k's return....

Notechis scutatus ater — Flinders Ranges Tiger Snake

The Tiger Snake is widely known and widely feared in Australia, and not without good reason: it has been responsible for a large proportion of snakebite deaths in the country. 

A tree Goana... and just look as the size of the tree....

This walk starts very easy but at the end it's a steep way up, but the view was worth it...

"You eat your lunch, I'll eat mine"

This is not even healthy for us, let alone for wildlife 

Sorry, I can't get enough of our view, especially with this evening light...

Our second walk leads us along a natural trail and starts just in front of our caravan.......

The most strange trees are to be seen....

The Old Baroota Cemetery

It's not that I love graveyards so much, but this one is situated at a beautiful, peaceful spot....

The walk also leads us to the Baroota ruins....

Not much left here....

G'day Mates,

First of all my Hubby and I wish you all a very Happy, Healthy New Year!!

As you know we have been in Western Australia for more then a year and we have had a wonderful time. We've had a lot of adventures with just the two of us but also with our "adopted family" and our family from Holland like our son and daughter.

Now it's time to go back towards Victoria and so we start on the big trip back. Leaving Kalgoorlie towards the Nullarbor.....

You might think we are crazy but during our trip a very important (for us it was) soccer match was played in The Netherlands and because of the time difference it was played at our time at two o' clock in the afternoon. So we stopped at a parking spot and set up the disc so we could watch the game.

It was hot and unfortunately our favourite club didn't do too good so we didn't watch till the end. 

The first night at the Nullarbor we had a beautiful relaxing spot with a view of the ocean.

Next day a long way to go again, Nullarbor means; no trees.....

On the other side of the Nullarbor, in South Australia we had a stop in Kimba, a great little town with a great free camp spot, a donation is asked and please do so as even a shower is provided!

This beautiful Silo-art is to be seen in Kimba as well..... 

From Kimba we actually wanted to go to Yorke Peninsula but the weather forecast was soo bad we decided to go to Port Germein which seemed to have a bit milder forecast. 

Port Germein happened to be a lovely small town with a great Jetty......

The Jetty once was 1680 metres, now it is 1532 metres because of damages during severe high tides...

I assume the rest was supposed to be here.....

In the evening the Jetty is a popular fishing spot......

From Port Germein it is just a few k's to Port Pirie and due to the caretaker of the caravan park, a place you had to see....

Here you see the Anglican Cathedral (well, just the door haha), the Greek Orthodox Church, and the latter is a seafood restaurant....

Port Pirie has some nice old buildings still....

The Post Office and The Railway station, operated till 1967, now a National Trust and Heritage listed building....

We also visited the Port Pirie RSL Military Museum and you know we are not really museum lovers but I must admit that this was a beauty, so much effort to get this little museum how it is now.

The museum is run by volunteers, admission is free but also here asked for a donation which I would recommend to give....

This Museum tells the stories of local service personnel and the sacrifices they made in the service of Australia. The exhibits cover conflicts from the Boer War to current times.

All the dogtags of those Veterans that were killed in Vietnam are on display and a Videowall showing images of the Huey and scenes from the Vietnam period.

We had our car parked on a spot where more cars were parked opposite the Museum and when we came back we saw that all these cars had a piece of paper hanging somewhere in the car and we first thought we would have a fine as we maybe weren't allowed to park there. After closer investigation we found out all these cars were for sale.

Lucky no one decided to sell our car....
